Design Assistant – Cape Town New Year Opportunity!

A good opportunity for a talented Design Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Checking new styles pattern pieces fit correctly and noting the amendments to Patternmaker.
• Checking of graded sets pattern pieces for Grader before production.
• Fit model fitting sessions: taking of notes of all alterations and comments.
• Cutting and making of plastic positioning Markers for the lines and cutting room of new graded pattern sets.
• Making of ironing positioning markers for new styles and repeat styles.
• Cataloguing and organising of manual patterns.
• Creating embroidery position markers for each new customer per style and size.
• Counting units of embroidery panels are correct and labelling them for the embroiderers/line before going to embroidery.
• Making swatch charts of new colours trims for the factories.
• Adding/updating correct trims to new colours of new styles before Sample cut sheets can be created.
• Updating fabric, lining and fusing ratings in the IM system when markers have changed.
• Record keeping of measurements for new styles and size ranges.
• Creating Line Drawings for all new styles in Illustrator.
• Creating of new fabric print designs in Illustrator.
• Creating sample packs for new samples (scanning in of model, marker, spec and uploading it to the network and IM system).
• Storyboards of new styles & fabrics.

Requirements

Experience:
Additional: • Design/Consumer Science or Clothing Design Diploma/Degree. • Strong understanding of garment construction and textile properties. • Excellent eye for detail and colour co-ordination. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. • Understanding of current fashion trends.
